Tamworth Equine Veterinary Centre has a great team, all of our staff have a love of horses and and take great pleasure in working with horses of all shapes and diciplines. They are dedicated to the consistent and professional care of your horse whether it be in training, out in the paddock or in hospital.

 

Dr Stuart D. Keller BVSc MACVSc - Senior Veterinarian / Director

The senior veterinarian and founder of Tamworth Equine Veterinary Centre, Stuart has been in practice for 30 years with varying periods in mixed rural and equine settings. Early practice life included a two year appointment in Tamworth before pursuing specialist training in equine surgery in Canada. This was followed by entry into an equine racing & pleasure horse practice in the Hawkesbury disrict. Stuart has resided in Tamworth for the last 21 years with a large part of the time as a partner in a mixed animal practice. Stuart's expertise is diagnosis and surgery but he also has particular interest in artificial breeding technologies, such as embryo transfer and developing new services for the freezing and distribution of stallion semen. Stuart currently holds the appointments as honorary veterinarian  to the Australian Quarterhorse Association and to the National Cutting Horse Association.

 

Dr Tamara McElroy BSc BVMS - Associate Veterinarian

Tamara grew up in Perth, Western Australia. Throughout her childhood she was heavily involved with the family's sheep farm, and rode horses from the age of 9 years old. She completed her degree at the Murdoch University and at graduation was awarded the inaugural Emilio balzarini Prize in Equine Medicine. After graduation she completed an internship at the Randwick Equine Centre where she had the opportunity to work with many of the country's leading specialists in equine surgery and medicine. At the conclusion of her internship, Randwick decided they did not want to see her leave so she stayed on as an associate until she decided to broaden her horizons and move to the country. Tamara's main areas of interest are internal medicine, critical care and radiography.

  

Dr Danielle Muscat BSc(Hons)  BVMS  MRCVS - Associate Veterinarian

Dani was born and raised in rural Ontario Canada. Having a love of horses at a young age she competed in show jumping throughout her youth. Dani completed her first degree at the University of Guelph in Ontario receiving a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Animal Biology. She went on to study Veterinary Medicine at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in Scotland. In her final year she won a scholarship to explore veterinary medicine in the country of her choice. Dani chose Australia and quickly fell in love with the wide variety of equine disciplines and beautiful countryside. Returning to live in Australia she is looking forward to pursuing her interests, some of which are foal medicine, soft tissue surgery and orthopaedics.

 

  

Rebecca Jordan - Senior Secretary

Rebecca has been with the TEVC Team since May 2008. Originally from Goondiwindi Qld, Rebecca was first a veterinary nurse at the Border Veterinary Surgery before enrolling at UNE to complete a Bachelor of Agriculture in General Studies. Since then she has traveled overseas and worked in Real Estate before relocating to Tamworth to work in reception at TEVC. Rebecca has brought a high level of efficency and friendliness to the practice, she is easy to talk to and has a keen interest in horses and farm animals. Rebecca married local farmer  Wade Jordan and now makes Tamworth their permanent home. 

 

Stacey Edmoston - Senior Equine Nurse & Laboratory Technician

Stacey joined us at the beginning of 2009 after relocating to Tamworth from the Hunter Valley where she worked at some of the well known studs including Vinery and  Woodlands Stud .Being the head nurse she has many roles including, nursing assistance in surgery, organisation of nursing staff for the care and maintenance of patients, reproductive laboratory technician, she is the person who maintains the smooth running of the medical areas so our Veterinarians can do their job. Stacey's main interests are artificial breeding and animal husbandry. She has travelled far as Kentucky (USA) and England  learning about Thoroughbreds and native ponies. Stacey has a passion for Riding ponies and their history. Owning her own Riding Pony Stallion she  can assure you that she will look after your horse as if it were her own.

 

Katherine Wellings - Secretary

Katherine has recently joined Tamworth Equine Veterinary Centre's secretarial staff. With a friendly smile and caring attitude, she is ready to help you with any queries you might have and will promptly direct your concerns to the appropriate staff member. Katherine was born and raised in the beautiful Macleay Valley and has a very strong interest in the equine lifestyle. She enjoys riding her cutting horses and barrel racing. Give us a call and if Katherine (or Rebecca) answers the phone, you can feel at ease that your needs are already in good hands.

Colin Dixon - Stallion Manager

Colin hails from a family whose life has been involved with racehorses. He brings to the practice a calm and confident manner and has a great way with our stallions in residence. Colin is responsible for the general maintenance and handling of the stallions for the duration of their stay at the centre. His other roll is the maintenance & upkeep of our farms ensuring the horses are in well fenced paddocks, are well fed and safe.  

Emma Worth - Veterinary Nurse

Emma is a Tamworth girl and is completing her Equine Veterinary Nursing Certificate with the practice. She joins us in the breeding season and has a major role in assisting with the surgical service as well as support for the seasonal breeding activities. How she accomplishes this with young children remains a mystery although we know she gets great support from her husband, Brian.

Sandi Webb - Stud Hand

Sandi worked with the practice during the last stud season and we found her to be fantastic in her role as a stud hand/ equine nurse. Sandi and her husband, Paul run a boutique Quarterhorse training and sale perparation enterprise that has gained an enviable reputation in a few short years. Her attention to detail and quality of care is just outstanding. We value her support during the breeding season.
