Artificial Insemination
The practice has a wealth of experience in this field due to the abudance of Quarterhorses and Stockhorses in this part of the country.
Our key breeding services in the Conception Equine Reproductive Centre are for chilled semen and frozen semen. The vast improvement in the quality of frozen semen in recent years has given breeders increasing confidence in choosing to have their mares inseminated with semen 'from the tank'. Successful frozen semen breeding programs are dependent on three equally important factors - fertile mare, good quality frozen semen and highly experienced reproductive technicians. The great advantage with using frozen semen is that it is available in cold storage for use at any time, unlike chilled semen which may not necessarily be available due to freight constraints.
Most mare owners are familiar with the use of chilled semen for breeding to remote stallions. The technique has the advantage of allowing the mare to remain close to home for the duration of her breeding. The standard of shipped semen can vary greatly depending on where it is collected. At Conception Equine every batch of semen we ship out has been rigorously tested to ensure it arrives at its destination in the best possible state. We are a member of Select Breeders Services an international company which maintains the highest levels of quality control.

In all mares bred using A.I. we use hormones to regulate ovulation. Using this method we plan insemination to coincide with ovulation, thereby maximising the chance of conception. Post-ovulation scans are conducted to evaluate the clearance of fluid and residues from the uterus.
